Overhead Courses

Diving in wrecks and caves captures the imagination, but with excitement comes additional challenges. We offer five courses that will equip you with the appropriate skills and knowledge to safely conduct dives in these overhead environments.


TDI Cavern Diver

The Cavern Diver programme provides divers with an awareness of the underwater cavern environment and provides an introduction to the skills required to safely undertake dives within the cavern zone. During the course you'll practice line handling, reel use and emergency procedures in the open water and then conduct four cavern dives to practice these skills in the overhead environment.

Pre-requisites: Open Water & 25 dives
Duration: 2 evenings and 1 weekend
No. of dives: 1 open water dive, 4 cavern dives
Equipment required: This class has specific equipment requirements, please see pdf document for more details.
Qualification limits: Exploration of the cavern/daylight zone only, maximum 60 linear metres from surface, max. depth 40m, no decompression.
Cost: $500, plus boat fees paid directly to charter operator

TDI Introductory Cave Diver

The Introductory Cave Diver programme takes cavern divers beyond the cavern zone and into the complete darkness of the cave. You will be taught all the skills required to safely dive in this challenging environment and tested on these skills with a variety of emergency scenarios and drills within the cave environment.

Pre-requisites: Cavern Diver or equivalent
Duration: 2 evenings and 1 weekend
No. of dives: 1 open water dive, 4 cave dives
Equipment required: This class has specific equipment requirements, please see pdf document for more details.
Qualification limits: Limited penetration into the cave environment, no complex navigation, gas limit 1/6th doubles, max. depth 40m, no decompression.
Cost: $550, plus boat fees paid directly to charter operator

TDI Full Cave Diver

This course is the 3rd stage of training in the cave diver development program. Advanced cave dive planning and the practical execution of more complex dives are the focus of this course. Students will cover a range of typical scenarios commonly faced by cave divers, plus expand and refine the skills learned on the previous two classes. Emphasis is placed on skill refinement through actual cave penetration dives.

Pre-requisites: Introductory Cave Diver
Duration: Minimum 6 days
No. of dives: Minimum 8 cave dives, with at least 240 minutes bottom time.
Equipment required: Full cave configuration.
Qualification limits: Full cave penetration, no limits.

TDI Advanced Wreck Diver

The Advanced Wreck Diver programme extends basic wreck diving skills to allow divers to make more challenging wreck penetration dives whilst maintaining awareness of their surroundings. The course introduces advanced line/reel use, team protocols and advanced dive planning.

Pre-requisites: Wreck Diver or Cavern Diver Specialty (or equivalent)
Duration: 3 days
No. of dives: 2 open water dives, 4 wreck penetration dives
Equipment required: This class has specific equipment requirements, please see pdf document for more details.
Qualification limits: Full wreck penetration, no limits.
Cost: $700, plus boat fees paid directly to charter operator
